Rev. Kurt Condra, Senior Minister of Unity on the North Shore, is meeting with faith leaders in Evanston this Thursday to discuss diversity in our church communities.
How is diversity reflected in our church communities? What obstacles do we face in becoming welcoming and inclusive? How can we express it more fully outside of our walls?
Unity on the North Shore has its own special miracle in its Minister, Rev. Kurt Condra. Kurt is committed to demonstrating unconditional love and spiritual light throughout his activities, responsibilities, and experiences, whether in his daily life at Unity or within his community. He has a warmth and caring that are wonderfully evident – even if you’ve just met him! Being in his presence brings both joy and appreciation. He reflects our connectedness to each other and to all creation.
Prior to ordination by the Association of Unity Churches in 2004, Kurt began his career in publishing, working for the Los Angeles Times and San Francisco Chronicle in their new media divisions, then becoming editor and, later, Managing Editor for Newport Communications, a trade magazine publisher. But, according to Kurt, he wanted “something more,” something of spiritual depth and meaning that would express his gratitude for God’s blessings. In 1994, he joined Unity Community Church in Laguna Hills, California, becoming its board president and director of communications. He also worked for two years as an administrator for St. George’s Episcopal Church in Laguna Hills.
Upon entering the ministerial program at Unity Village in Kansas, Kurt dove with enthusiasm into its two years of rigorous training. After ordination, he became Associate Minister at one of the movement’s largest churches, Unity Church of Dallas. In six years there, he easily won the hearts of congregants, staff, and Dallas residents with his steady, compassionate recognition of their own innate divinity.
Kurt became Minister at Unity on the North Shore in 2010. He has brought creative change where it’s been needed, and like a Sanctuary of Spiritual Welcome, Kurt’s door is open wide to anyone who’d like to give opinions, comments, or suggestions – or, as often happens, just to say “Thank you!” Kurt Condra’s vision and faith provide a remembrance that the power of the universe, the power of God, is always present within and through each one of us.
